AITKIN-Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin was recently named one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the country.
These 20 rural hospitals, including Riverwood, scored highest among critical access hospitals nationwide on iVantage Health Analytics' Hospital Strength Index, the first nationwide hospital rating system to evaluate rural and critical access hospitals based upon various market, value-based and financial measures.
The rankings were recently announced by the National Rural Health Association. An awards ceremony honoring the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals will be held during NRHA's Critical Access Hospital Conference in September in Kansas City, Mo.
The Top 20 Critical Access Hospital "winners" are those hospitals that have achieved success in overall performance based on a composite rating from eight indices of strength: quality, outcomes, patient perspectives, inpatient market share, outpatient market share, costs, charges and financial stability. This elite group represents the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals from iVantage's larger list of the Top 100 CAHs, released earlier this year.
The iVantage Health Analytics' Hospital Strength Index is the industry's most comprehensive rating of rural providers. It provides the data foundation for the annual Rural Relevance Study, and its results are the basis for many of rural health care's most prominent awards, advocacy efforts and legislative initiatives. The list of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals and more information about the study can be found at www.iVantageINDEX.com "It's more important than ever that rural hospitals proactively understand and address performance in the areas of cost, quality, outcomes and patient perspective. iVantage's Index was designed to serve as this industry model," said Michael Topchik, national leader of the Chartis Center for Rural Health. "Across the spectrum of performance indicators, there are rural
