Central Minnesota Christian School (CMCS), in Prinsburg, is the recipient of the Eagle Award - the top honor bestowed by the Minnesota/North Dakota Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
Widseth Smith Nolting's (WSN) architectural team worked closely with school administration, staff, and supporters to design a facility that enriches the school's curriculum and mission, WSN reported.
The CMCS project entailed replacing the campus' existing junior/senior high school with a new and larger facility in its place. The junior/senior high and the elementary school are now connected by a new link, which serves all grades and includes a cafetorium, kitchen, storage rooms, and a green room and prop room for the stage area. A new library, offices, classrooms, and a concession area were also added.
Based on the success of the first phase, the project budget for the second phase was increased ensuring that the design will match the first phase. The second phase includes a new gymnasium with choir, band, industrial arts, and a community weight room. It also includes special education classrooms.
Widseth Smith Nolting has designed a number of award-winning school facilities. The Mississippi Horizons Technology Magnet School, Brainerd, received an Award of Excellence from ABC as well as recognition for Outstanding Design, Middle School Category, from American School & University (AS&U). St. Mary's Education Center, Alexandria, and Forestview Middle School, Baxter, were both recognized by AS&U for Outstanding Design-St. Mary's in the Renovation/Modernization Category and Forestview in the Middle School Category. Forestview also received the 2007 Building of America Plaque of Honor from Construction Communications.
