Free Thanksgiving dinners offered in Pequot, Pine River

As in years past, free Thanksgiving Day dinners will be served in Pine River and Pequot Lakes on Thursday, Nov. 22.

Pine River

The Smith family will celebrate its 25th anniversary of spearheading a free Thanksgiving Day dinner from noon to 2 p.m. at the Pine River American Legion.

Donations are appreciated but not required and are used to help stock the local food shelf and provide funding for charitable organizations.

Rides and home delivery are available to those who need them. Requests must be made by calling 218-947-3500 or 218-587-2120.

The Smith family prepares and hosts the dinner in memory of Floyd and Vi Smith, who started the tradition.

Pequot Lakes

Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot Lakes will host a free community Thanksgiving Day dinner from noon to 2 p.m.

Freewill offerings will be accepted, and profits will be shared between the Lakes Area Food Shelf and the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen.

The buffet menu will include an assortment of salads, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, corn, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, an assortment of pies and beverages.

Groups and individuals are welcome. Serving will be first-come, first-served.
