DEERWOOD-A benefit for the family of Danyele Johnson of Ironton, who was killed Jan. 13 at Heartwood Senior Living Community in Crosby, will be 5 p.m. Saturday at the Deerwood American Legion.
The benefit will include a dinner of sloppy Joes and chips at a cost of $7 for adults and $5 for youths; a silent auction with numerous gift baskets and certificates donated by area businesses and individuals; and entertainment by DJ Abby Geotz.
All proceeds will go to the Johnson family to be used to cover cremation costs, assist with moving and other expenses and supplement the loss from their main source of income.

Johnson was stabbed multiple times while she was working at the senior living facility, allegedly by her brother, David Michael Otey.

Otey was charged Jan. 17 with felony second-degree intentional murder without premeditation in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd.
