The Breezy Point Area Women’s Club met Wednesday, June 5, at Breezy Point City Hall to hear Joy McBrien share her story of helping to empower more than 8,000 women in five countries to work together to overcome domestic violence in their lives.

McBrien established a fair trade organization called Fair Anita, based in St. Paul, to help these women. Women who are abused physically are also typically abused economically. Their goods are sold in 500 stores around the United States. They can also be viewed at fairanita.com.

McBrien is the granddaughter of club member Joan McBrien.

The women’s club will meet Wednesday, July 10, at Marina II at Breezy Point Resort. Speaker will be Bob Spizzo, who will share current and future plans in the Breezy Point area. Amy Hurt, chief operating officer of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, will talk about the new clinic in Breezy Point.

Check-in time is between 11-11:15 a.m. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by the speakers and a short business meeting.
