3rd annual community fundraisers planned for Scooby's Animal Mission

The third annual community fundraiser for Scooby's Animal Mission will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Aitkin Lanes, for a bowl-a-thon, raffle ticket sales and a bake sale. There will be another bowl-a-thon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18 at Aitkin Lanes, with a ticket drawing for baskets and prizes.

There will also be an event from 4:30-11 p.m. Friday at the Moose Lodge in Aitkin, with a hot dog/brat, chips and coleslaw dinner for $10. There will be DJ music. A Paws on Parade will be at 7 p.m. No pets in the building until 6 p.m.

All proceeds go to Scooby's Animal Mission, a nonprofit organization to support rescue animals in the area.

Nisswa Women's Club 36th annual scholarship benefit fashion show and luncheon set

The Nisswa Women's Club 36th annual scholarship benefit fashion show and luncheon will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 28 at Madden's Town Hall.

The monthly meeting for the Disabled American Veterans, Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22, will be 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Brainerd VFW Club.

Sons of Norway to meet

The Sons of Norway Sagatun Lodge of Brainerd will have a social meeting 6 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd.

The evening will be a celebration of Norwegian Independence Day with a lutefisk and meatball dinner.

Aitkin-Crow Wing County Council of the American Legion to meet

The Aitkin-Crow Wing County Council of the American Legion will meet 7:30 p.m. May 28 at the Brainerd American Legion Post 255.

All members of the American Legion are welcome to attend to discuss current events of the American Legion. Special guests will include Al Lund, executive director of Allied Charities of Minnesota, and Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, to talk about the state of charitable gambling and the current laws being presented.

3rd annual youth nonprofit garage and bake sale planned

The third annual youth nonprofit garage and bake sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds.

There will be three buildings filled with items to help out Zion Lutheran youth group raising funds for the national youth gathering, Girl Scout Troop 599 raising funds for a trip to New Orleans and Crow Wing County 4-H raising funds for scholarships for camp and state fair.

The groups will be collecting items (clothing, household items, linens with no stains and toys) from 4-5 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the fairgrounds.

The 194th Regiment meeting will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, in the Regimental Room at the Brainerd National Guard Armory.

Agenda will include annual Bataan Memorial March, fishing trip with Chaplain Todd Wooden, and after action review of the Bataan Memorial Service April 9.
