State swimming preliminaries for Class 1A, including competitors from the Little Falls Flyers, is set to begin at noon Friday, Nov. 15, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

The Central Lakes College Raiders volleyball team plays 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, against ninth-seeded Jefferson in the consolation match of the NJCAA Division III Nationals at Rochester Regional Sports Center in Rochester.

Wiidookodaadiwag Pow-wow is set for 5:15-9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Central Lakes College 501 W. College Drive, Brainerd.

The free event will celebrate American Indian culture through music, games and dance. An “Intro to Powwow” education session will be 5:15 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge. A meal is at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. will be the grand entry.

The Central Lakes College Raiders men’s and women’s basketball teams take on St. Cloud Technical beginning 5:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in St. Cloud.

The Seventh Annual Taste of Nations Fundraiser for the Heartland Symphony Orchestra runs 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Legacy Pavillion at Cragun’s Golf Course Clubhouse in East Gull Lake.

The dinner will feature four courses of German cuisine paired with musical selections. The evening begins with social hour, appetizers and a silent auction with dinner and music beginning at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at heartlandsymphony.com.

Brainerd High School Theater Department presents “Almost, Maine” 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in The Little Theatre at BHS. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.

Big Sweet Life will perform “Dylanography: A Multimedia Musicological Experience” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Great River Arts in Little Falls.

The performance includes songs from Bob Dylan, The Byrds, The Band, The Turtles, George Harrison, John Lennon, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Traveling Wiburys, Arlo Guthrie, Jimi Hendrix and Dire Straits.

Saturday, Nov. 16

The Growers and Makers Holiday Market will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Sprout Growers and Makers Marketplace in Little Falls.

More than 40 farmers, artisans and artists will be displaying their work. The 10 a.m. performance will feature St. Cloud musician Nathan Neuman on accordion.

There will be free art activities for all ages at “The Happy Little Art Cart” with artist Tressa Hills, and free samples during a cooking demonstration with Chef Mateo Mackbee of Model Citizen the Restaurant in New London. A Cabin Fever pop-up restaurant will have lunch, craft brews and wine available during the market.

Belly Dance by Megg Shepard “Student Showcase” show: 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Yesterday's Gone Blue Room in Brainerd.

The show is family friendly. Olive Branch Belly Dance will also perform and the show includes live music by InkVine.

Lakes Area Singles, a social club for single adults age 40 and older, invites the public to attend this dance. Cost of admission is $5. North Country DJ will provide the music.

Sunday FUNday Vikings TailGate Party to support the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center will be noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Roundhouse Brewery in Brainerd.

For every pint that is sold, the women’s center will get a financial contribution. There will be a raffle for two tickets to Vikings vs. Packers home game on Dec. 23. Bring a donation to the event — diapers size 4, 5 and 6; gas and grocery cards; dial-a-ride bus tokens/passes; Christmas gifts (any); wrapping paper; or batteries — to get a raffle ticket for signed Vikings memorabilia.

The kickoff to the Lakes Area Music Festival Winter Series — Hebraic Dances will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 5064 County Road 13, Nisswa.

Works by Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, and Paul Schoenfield will be performed, each full of sinuous melodies and Jewish dance tunes.

Donations are accepted to support this and other LAMF programs. The suggested donation is $20/adult. Open to the public. Handicap accessible venues.
