The Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace will have a Hands Off Venezuela vigil beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the intersection of Sixth and Washington Streets, Brainerd, near the Sawmill Inn.
Vigil participants will meet at the vigil site. Signs and flags are available for vigil participants.
The Hands Off Venezuela vigil will demand an end to U.S. threats against Venezuela, the lifting of all sanctions on Venezuela, and the cessation of interference in Venezuela's internal affairs. The vigil will oppose the U.S. or another nation (i.e. Brazil, Colombia) possibly waging war against Venezuela. The vigil will decry the suffering sanctions, currency manipulation and violent opposition protests have caused the Venezuelan people.
The vigil will demand the U.S. respect the results of the May 2018 Venezuelan presidential election and recognize President Nicolas Maduro as Venezuela's democratically elected president. The vigil will call for the U.S. to respect Venezuela's sovereignty and right to self-determination under international law. The vigil calls for the U.S. to fully normalize diplomatic and trade relations with Venezuela.
BACP's Hands Off Venezuela vigil is in solidarity with Hands Off Venezuela vigils planned in the United States and internationally.
