Ten juveniles - nine boys and one girl - were arrested for a string of "car shopping" incidents, cases where the perpetrator breaks into a car to steal radios, CD players and personal belongings. They are charged with 187 crimes since Jan. 1, 1997, with a total loss of $72,725.

A feasibility study for proposed construction of a new building for the Water & Light Dept. will also consider the possibility of a new city hall. The new water and light building would consolidate all their offices and operations under one roof.

Carbon monoxide fumes from an inadequately ventilated furnace are believed to have caused three adults to lose consciousness three nights ago in Brainerd. Rocky Warner remains in critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital, while two women are in fair and good condition.

The Minnesota adjutant general has named 1st Lt Donald Jensen as new commander of Headquarters Company of the 194th Tank Battalion, replacing Capt. Bob Olson. Jensen is up from the ranks, having reached the rank of sergeant before earning his officer's commission.

Discovery of an abandoned auto on Hwy 210 nine miles east of Brainerd resulted in tracing the car stolen from V.W. Olson in Brainerd yesterday. Turns out that two boys stole a car in Minneapolis, drove it here, dropped it on the highway and then stole Olson's car. They were caught in LaCrosse, Wisc.

Today the new war tax on legal papers and other documents goes into effect. Special stamps will be required for bonds, capital stock, customs house entries, passenger tickets, parcel post, etc. You can purchase the stamps easily at any post office.
