Around the time the city of Brainerd was established, a pioneer church was established on Aug. 13, 1872. And more than 125 years later, the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ is still thriving, boasting a strong congregation of 250 members.

Bang Printing employees have called for a union vote Aug. 24 in hopes of creating job security. Voting will take place at the post office and polls will close at 4:30 p.m. General manager Con Bye said Bang is experiencing cash-flow problems because of rapid growth in the past six years.

The Brainerd swim team climaxed the season with the Red Cross swim meet held at Lum Park. The meet featured a large delegation from C-I, whose Happy Abrahamson won the diving by a large margin, despite sustaining a head injury on a practice dive.

County agent Colquhoun has arranged with the Dupont Powder Co. for a series of stump blowing demonstrations across the county from Aug. 29-31. Purpose is to show how to properly use dynamite to blow stumps, a practice that is often done incorrectly.
