Local volunteers are being sought for the 33rd broadcast of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon for MD. The telethon will be aired on KSTP with the local pledge center at the Brainerd Holiday Inn. Volunteers will man the phones and sort pledge envelopes.

The Fort Ripley Rebels were eliminated from the State Class C amateur tournament after suffering an 8-6 loss to Morris in 11 innings. Trailing 6-5 in the 9th, the Rebels loaded the bases and John Tibbett hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Morris outhit the Rebels 16 to 6.

The $80,000 Lockheed Zephyr transport plane flown here to exhibit for the Natl. Aeronautics convention, is identical to the one Howard Hughes flew on his record around-the-world flight. It was viewed by thousands here at the Brainerd Municipal Airport.

The Fred Cook family of Fargo and Richard Bush of Brainerd are expected to motor to Chicago early next week to see three games of the World Series between Boston and Chicago. Brainerd's Leslie "Bullet Joe" Bush is expected to pitch for Boston.
