Jim Russell, Central Lakes College men's basketball coach, is serious when he tells players to attend class and keep their grades up. Russell handed three players (whom he did not identify) a one-game suspension for low grades and they did not play in a 63-61 loss this week.

Warrior gymnastics coach Dave Maras knew his team was ready to explode, and they did, with a 140.95 to 121.35 win over St. Cloud Apollo. It was Brainerd's best score of the season but Maras says they still have room to improve.

(Photo) Ron Falenschek, 6-10 Warrior center, dunks one in the opening period of last night's 52-40 Brainerd win over Bemidji. It didn't count, as he'd traveled, but he connected on nine others for 18 points, plus 11 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

(Photo) Brainerd Chamber members are shown boarding the morning North Central Airlines flight to Minneapolis today. The members of the legislative affairs committee were invited by the Twin Cities Chambers to attend a sales tax study meeting.

Two youths, ages 18 and 20, came to the city jail looking for a place to sleep for the night. Such "overnight residents" are always frisked beforehand. One was found to have the billfold of a Remer man. A quick check found they were "wanted." They'll spend more than one night in jail.

Flags of the city - at city hall, post office, courthouse and many homes - were at half staff today, paying a last tribute to Col. Theodore Roosevelt, former president of the U.S. Many residents had seen Roosevelt in his travels. He died peacefully at his home, Sagamore Hill.
