It's official. FOX Sports will attend the Brainerd Jaycees $100,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza on Jan. 16, says Jaycee publicity chair Bob Slaybaugh. FOX is in Minneapolis for the Vikings-Atlanta NFL game. The Jaycees are still trying to get broadcaster John Madden to attend.

(Photo) Despite using a heavy-duty crane and a six-wheel drive wrecker, the National Guard still had difficulty when they hoisted a 22-ton tank onto a platform in front of the new National Guard Armory in South Brainerd. At times the entire crane leaned forward due to the heavy tank.

Police Chief Wayne Hasty today petitioned the Civil Service Commission for the dismissal of Officer Randall Bush. In a letter released today, Hasty said he believes Bush used excessive force in arresting suspects on five occasions, dating back to 1976.

(Photo) Glendon Perkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perkins of Crosslake, was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force after graduation from OCS at Lackland Air Force Base. He will be assigned to Kessler AFB in Mississippi.

In as fast and thrilling a game as ever presented at the Washington High School gym, the Warriors whipped C-I 39-28 before 2,000 howling fans. Ahead just 20-19 at the half, Brainerd rode the scoring of Wimpy Aylward 12, Pinky Boyd 11 and Gus Novotny 10 to victory.

By order of the commissioners, the county purchased a service flag and ladies of the Red Cross have sewed the information upon it. The large blue star with 962 refers to the number enlisted or drafted from this county. The gold star with 28 indicates the number who gave their lives.
