John Palmer may be best known as a member of the well-regarded regional band "Wyld Ryce," from 1979-1986. But he and wife Vicki had three sons - Chris, 24, Corey, 19, and Brady, 11 - and now the five Palmers have formed a family band called, naturally, "The Palmers."

After three straight years of winning the Region 8AA gymnastics meet by .55 hundredths of a point or less, the Warriors took the crown with 137.5 to runner-up St. Cloud Tech's 128.15. It was Brainerd's 8th straight region title and they send five gymnasts to the individual meet.

Fire ravaged an apartment in Breezy Point Resort's historic Fawcett house, but there were no injuries. The fire started in a chair at 2 a.m., and people in the main commons area banged on the door to wake the apartment dweller, who was sleeping. She escaped.

Forty men, five trucks and three snowplows were at work today digging Brainerd out of the snow drifts that a 25 mph wind had piled up during the night. The city engineer said the crews were hampered by continued drifting, but that county and state roads were in worse shape.

After two hours of deliberation, the jury in the case of Hilda Hill, charged with manslaughter, said "not guilty." The little woman smiled through her tears and thanked the jury. She had shot her estranged husband when he threatened her and tried to break into her house.
