(Photo) Filmore Pfeifle, a 20-year superintendent of the Pillager school district, and his wife, Elizabeth, became emotional after learning the addition to the elementary and secondary school would be named in his honor. The announcement was made at the dedication banquet.

The two-story bungalow that used to house the dam tenders for the Gull Lake Dam is being remodeled into much needed office space for the nearby campground and rec area. The solid building was built in 1913 with 12-inch thick concrete walls.

Brainerd High School repeated as the Sub-Region 8 Speech Champion, with Melrose and Little Falls finishing second and third. The top eight in each of the 11 speech divisions will move to the regional finals, with Brainerd advancing 33 participants.

An attendance of nearly 300 saw the installation of the new Brainerd Elks Lodge exalted ruler, Carl Peterson, and his administration. Elks from more than ten area towns attended and also witnessed six boxing exhibitions and eight vaudeville acts.
