Brainerd firemen this afternoon were using backfires in an attempt to control a 160-acre grass fire in the city south of Oak Street between 19th and Beech Streets. The fire in a swamp was believed caused by someone dumping hot ashes along Oak Street.

April 18 is "Tank Day" in Brainerd. The battle tank from the war in Europe will demonstrate its maneuvers by knocking down shacks, climbing trees, breaking up an old car, plunging through the "shellholes" (potholes) of Kindred Street and negotiating the sand on South Broadway Street.
