The Warrior softball team claimed the championship at the Detroit Lakes Invitational, beating the host team plus Norman County East and Moorhead. In the final game, Alyssa Kiffmeyer shut out Moorhead 3-0, with help from the bats of Breanna Holland and Julie Moran.

The Brainerd city hall flagpole should be given to a historical society, according to Don Rush of Pillager. He and son Ron are part of a dying breed - steeplejacks. While most modern flagpoles are aluminum, Brainerd's is wood, requiring coats of paint every so often.

Resignation or commendation. Those were the two choices offered by opposing attorneys to the city council as it determines the fate of Police Chief Wayne Hasty. The council will wade through 1,500 pages of testimony in the case of grievances filed against Hasty and police administration.

A 19-year-old St. Louis Park man who accidentally shot himself yesterday died while his host at a Gilbert Lake cabin raced into Brainerd for an ambulance. The man had been repairing his .22 pistol and shot himself in the stomach while test firing the gun.

The Jenkins post office was robbed of $160 in stamps and $30 cash this morning. Thieves broke in through a basement door, went to the main floor and knocked the dial off the safe. It is believed the thieves are the same group that hit the post office at Hewitt and businesses at Hackensack.
