Crow Wing County currently has 2,065 unserved arrest warrants and 60 people who have been sentenced to jail or to work release that have nowhere to go because of crowding. Representatives from six area counties met in Brainerd to discuss the possibility of creating a minimum security regional jail.

The season isn't open, but local anglers are gnashing their teeth over fences recently erected in the middle of the Fisherman's Bridge over the Gull River. The fences are the result of a long-standing feud between fishermen and boaters, who say they get caught in fishing lines from the bridge.

Brainerd's Water & Light Board has approved an agreement which will connect Brainerd's and Baxter's sanitary sewer systems and allow joint use of the new wastewater facility. Brainerd and Baxter councils must now approve the agreement.

Brainerd police are investigating the story of an 18-year-old youth who said he was kidnapped, robbed and beaten by three men about five miles northeast on Hwy 210. He was hitchhiking when he says the men picked him up, demanded money and beat him when he only had 50 cents.

The agricultural committee of the chamber of commerce is in an active campaign to assist the Pepin Co. of Winona in securing enough cucumber acreage this summer to warrant a salting plant here. The plant needs the produce from sixty acres to be successful.
