(Photo) A Brainerd team headed by Lloyd Johnson and three sons took the state bowling tournament title in Owatonna with an actual count of 3,151 and 3,478 with handicap. Loren Herrlich rolled a 667, Darrell Johnson 719, Dennis Johnson 613, Dan Johnson 569 and Lloyd Johnson 583.

Dr. Helen Longfellow was appointed to a term on the Brainerd PUC that ended Jan. 1. Mayor Bob Olson said he would not reappoint her, and named Irene Johnson to the post. The council rejected her. Now Olson has appointed former fire chief Ray Shortridge. The council rejected him, too.

In a surprising upset, a political newcomer ousted 12-year veteran Francis (Babe) Anderson from his seat on the school board. Darlene Anderson, Nisswa, received 1,018 votes to Anderson's 792. The second open seat went to Fred Casey with 888 votes.

(Photo) A St. Paul pilot who "just plain forgot" to lower his landing gear, bellied his twin-engine Apache onto the runway at the Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport yesterday. Neither the pilot nor his passenger were injured, but damage to the plane will be extensive.

Levi Johnson was named 2nd Ward alderman last night over H.S. Paine, taking the spot vacated by new Mayor Frank Johnson. Levi Johnson was selected after an angry council vote despite a petition supporting Paine. A heated argument ensued over people being threatened to sign the petition.
