Chalk one up for consistency. The Warrior boys' 4x200 meter relay team ran almost the exact time they did in the prelims to finish third in the state Class AA track meet. Team members are Jesse Strowbridge, Jared Reese, Matt Weiss and Matt Munsterteiger, who shaved his head to "feel fast."
30 years ago (1989)
In yesterday's sweep of Moorhead at Don Adamson Field, there were many heroes as the Warriors prevailed, 11-0 and 8-1 in the best-of-three series. Brainerd, now 15-3 on the season, moves to the state tournament for the first time since 1981, and will play Burnsville next week.
40 years ago (1979)
Brainerd and the county began work on an agreement that will be used if either party receives approval to issue bonds for their joint municipal airport. They seek a referendum to give them power to sell $900,000 in bonds for airport expansion.
60 years ago (1959)
An 11-year-old Northeast boy and his 11-year-old pal saved one boy's sister from drowning in a water-filled basement excavation. While crossing a vacant lot, the girl fell in and the boys dived in to save her. Tom Smith got a grip on his sister Penny and pulled her to the surface.
80 years ago (1939)
Discouraged and disgusted by the indifferent response to an effort to secure pledges for a new civic association, members of the organizing committee washed their hands of the project unless business and professional men show more interest. The new organization would replace the now defunct Chamber.
100 years ago (1919)
Sheriff Claus Theorin says that the body of Mrs. George Bennett was found lying in the road near her home, nine miles north of Crosby. Her husband and brother found her when returning from town. She was shot through the back of the head. There are three suspects but no arrests yet.
