20 years ago (1999)

In five of the last six seasons the Warriors have had a 1,000-yard rusher. Kyle Berg joined that elite list while running for 175 yards in Brainerd's 54-21 win over Little Falls. He ran for three TDS on runs of 27, 80 and 3 yards, and caught a 30-yard TD pass from QB Matt Yde.

30 years ago (1989)

Sara Dunlap moved to Brainerd in 1969 as a full-time mom and homemaker with a desire to make the world better. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, and yesterday Dunlap was named the 1989 Brainerd Outstanding Citizen of the Year.

40 years ago (1979)

Ruling that both sides had violated election rules, the Bureau of Mediation Services voided a May 24 election between the two rival Brainerd teacher organizations. That election had been brought on by problems with the first election, so the next one will be the third try.

60 years ago (1959)

80 years ago (1939)

Family members finally had closure after the body of M.H. Benson, 88, resident of the Sylvan area for 50 years, was found. A neighbor looking for cows found Benson's body about a mile and a half from the Benson farm. He had wandered away about six months ago.

100 years ago (1919)

Following a visit with his family in Brainerd, Tom “Fat” Woods paused in Little Falls between trains and stepped on the baggage scale. He weighed 444 pounds, saying he lost 40 pounds in California working in Charlie Chaplin films. He is appearing at Twin Cities theaters for two weeks.
