(Photos) Damion LaPrairie, who by day is a cook at Morey's Fish House and Grille in Brainerd, by night is a professional boxer. Decked out in his tribal colors, he took on John Hibble in the main event at Grand Casino Hinckley. The two men fought to a draw.

30 years ago (1989)

He's a pitcher's nightmare! Jerry “Chick” Lyscio plays for Steve's Roofing in the over-30 baseball league in Papillion, Nebr. The 44-year-old from Brainerd has hit three towering homers this year that were all over 450-feet. The former professional says he's played ball every summer for 40 years.

The underdog Warriors, aided by a new offense and strong determination, made the upset of the conference season in defeating C-I, 27-20 last night. The Rangers had been unbeaten and ranked 6th in the state. With its surprise single-wing attack, Brainerd scored four first-half touchdowns.

Vic Johnson, head of the state tourist bureau, will speak here tonight at the county-wide gathering of resorters under the banner of Paul Bunyan Playground Assn. Twelve communities are expected to be represented by close to 400 persons.

At the bowl of the new cement water tower on the old depot grounds, workmen are putting in the steel used for reinforcing. The inner part of the bowl within the forms looks like a basket woven of long, slender reeds.
