The Warriors lost to Alexandria 19-15 in the Section 8, Class 5A football title game played at Fargo. Brainerd shut down the Alex running game, but couldn't stop QB Marc Craigmile, who went 10-for-18 and two touchdowns. Brainerd had four offensive turnovers. The Warriors finish at 9-2.

30 years ago (1989)

Residents of the area near Hardee's Restaurant are still looking for cooperation from their commercial neighbor, whose expanded parking lot has sparked unfriendly feelings. Council member Denny Martin and the city engineer will meet with residents to hear their concerns.

40 years ago (1979)

Every child in Brainerd's elementary schools will be checked for head lice on Nov. 9 in the wake of an increase in head lice among children here. The problem, though not an epidemic, means children found with lice will be sent home, along with any siblings, for proper treatment.

60 years ago (1959)

(Photo) Richard Simons of Pillager is thankful for many reasons. First, that he got his deer early – a 236-pound buck shot at 7:10 a.m. on opening day. Second, that there wasn't more snow, as he had to drag his trophy 3/4-mile to his car. It wouldn't fit in the trunk, so he took out the back seat.

80 years ago (1939)

Improvement of Hwy 371 between Brainerd and Pequot is being studied by the Minn. Highway Dept., with the principal goals of eliminating sharp turns and widening the roadway. Engineers say the most dangerous stretch is that between Nisswa and Pequot.
