30 years ago (1989)

The good, the bad and the downright ugly – it all came out in a 2-hour meeting with the R/UDAT team yesterday. Eighty people met at the American Legion, and Warren Williams, former chamber pres., said there is a vacuum in leadership with personalities getting in the way of progress.

40 years ago (1979)

(Adv.) A double feature at the Paramount Theatre: “Riot in Juvenile Prison,” starring Jerome Thor, and “Girls, Guns and Gangsters,” starring Mamie Van Doren and Lee Van Cleef. At the Brainerd Theatre it's “The Jayhawkers,” starring Jeff Chandler and Fess Parker.

80 years ago (1939)

Supt. Henry Roberts of the Water and Light Dept. said his employees will install three light poles on the Boom Lake slide. Installing 500-watt bulbs will allow for night ski jumping and for night slalom skiing on adjacent slopes. The Brainerd Ski Club made the request.

100 years ago (1919)

Armistice Day was celebrated in Brainerd though there was no formal program. Patriotic programs were offered at the schools and businesses closed at noon. This quiet celebration was in contrast to the pandemonium that greeted the signing of the armistice last year and dancing in the streets.
