Brainerd Police Officer Corky McQuiston suffered minor injuries when he used his squad car to stop Kirk Nelson, 31, of Brainerd, who led officers on a 15-minute auto chase through Brainerd. Nelson, who was recently released from prison for auto theft, was stopped on Willow Street.

30 years ago (1989)

Unfortunately for the Warrior girls' swimmers, close doesn't count at the state swim meet. At Richfield High School pool, the 200-yard medley relay team of Shane Kieffer, Steph Jones, Sallie Park and Jocelyn Manion finished 13th in 1:58.11 and failed to qualify for the consolation finals.

One of the strangest reasons for a mistrial was presented to Judge Galarneault this morning in District Court. A kitchen stove, which was the reason for the litigation, was sold to a local merchant, who then sold it to Carroll Ray. The judge discovered the stove was still owned by Ray, who was on the jury.

80 years ago (1939)

The recent juvenile crime wave has been solved as four 14-year-olds admitted to seven break-ins in Brainerd. They include: Breaking into the junior high principal's office, break-ins at Anderson Mercantile, Angel Feed Store, Consumers Oil, Lampert Lumber and Montgomery Ward.
