20 years ago (1999)

He was honored to speak with Pope John Paul II last month for the second time in 1-1/2 years. But, Father Richard Kunst of St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd has an even greater memory. He also brought back from Rome a skull cap which had been worn by the Pope.

30 years ago (1989)

About 100 people filled a room at the Brainerd Public Library to hear comments on the proposed MacMillan Bloedel wood products plant. Environmentalist Gary Payne led most speakers who urged a cautious and questioning approach on the plant’s environmental impact.

40 years ago (1979)

Wandering minstrels, a wassail bowl and a seven-course meal “fit for a king” will highlight the 10th Annual Boar’s Head Dinner and Concert. Sponsored by Brainerd Community College, the dinner will be held Dec. 13-15 at the Brainerd Holiday Inn. Tickets are $9.25 per person.

60 years ago (1959)

A good attendance was present for the monthly meeting of the Crow Wing County Ministerial Assn. Among the items of business was appointing a committee to study the proposal to place a bronze plaque of the Ten Commandments in the county court house.

100 years ago (1919)

There were 367 deer shipped down from International Falls by the Minnesota & International Railway on Saturday night. The handiwork of the deer hunters nearly clogged up the local railway express office.
