20 years ago (1999)

30 years ago (1989)

The late Ernie Miller, formerly with the Minn. National Guard, was awarded the rank of brevet brigadier general in ceremonies at the Pentagon. He fought in the Mexican border campaign in 1916, then in WWI. But he is best known as the commander of the 194th Tank Battalion in WWII.

40 years ago (1979)

Vandals struck at the Brainerd Beauty College on S. 6th Street early on Nov. 30, the sixth time the college has been either vandalized or burglarized since September. Owner Tom Louden says in the current incident, vandals threw a garbage can through each of three glass storm doors at the rear of the building.

60 years ago (1959)

One of the largest opening game crowds in several seasons saw the Warriors trounce the Mora Mustangs 68-47. Despite Mora being in the midst of a flu epidemic, Brainerd still showed desire and speed not visible last year. Isle, Boeder and Horn all hit 13 points for Brainerd.

100 years ago (1919)

The city council is out of patience with homeowners who neglect to clear snow from their walks. They have ordered the city engineer to hire a crew and clean up the walks, charging the cost to the homeowners. A few “cleanup” charges should put some pep into the snow shovels.
