(Photo) Crystal Savage, a 7th-grader on Coach Kay Edgeton's Warrior gymnastics team, sparked the team to second place in the six-team 2nd Annual Brainerd Invitational. The 4-foot-4, 68-pound dynamo took first on beam and all-around, second on floor exercise and seventh on vault.

60 years ago (1960)

YMCA directors met at Eddy's Restaurant last night to interview an official of a Chicago fund-raising firm that specializes in hospital and YMCA campaigns. The board will interview one more candidate before settling on one to help raise funds for a new building at the corner of 6th and Oak Streets.

80 years ago (1940)

The third sale of land forfeited to the county for non-payment of taxes is set for Feb. 15 at the court house, said auditor F.M. Hagberg. The land parcels are located in Deerwood, Trommald, Manganese, Pequot Lakes, Jenkins, Fort Ripley and Garrison. Land in Brainerd and the Range was sold earlier.

100 years ago (1920)

B.E. Koecher, janitor at the city hall, protests that the temperature did not go below 68 degrees at the city hall. He said some employee was joking when he said the temperature had slipped to 60 degrees on Monday and that overcoats were being worn indoors.
