One played in the NBA. Another is the all-time leading scorer in Minnesota college basketball. Five played or are playing Division I basketball. Whitey Skoog, Chris Bjorklund, Ron Falenschek, Jim Smith, Frank Wachlarowicz, and Bernie Salthe – all members of the Dispatch's All-Century Boys' Basketball Team.

30 years ago (1990)

The Warrior boys' hockey team completed a sweep of Detroit Lakes this year with a 5-1 victory, improving their record to 11-5 on the season. Ryan Liebel and Chris Ebinger netted first-period goals, while Charlie Koob and Brian Zierke, with his team leading 15th goal, scored in the second. Trevor Wood scored in the third.

40 years ago (1980)

Hammered 44-6 on Friday night by Elk River, ranked one of the top teams in the state, Warrior wrestlers bounced back for a strong third-place finish at the Columbia Heights Invitational. Lone champ was Curt Henningson at 114 pounds. Claiming seconds were Jim Caughey at 100 and Rick Olson at 121.

60 years ago (1960)

In a telegram to the Dispatch, Jerry Krueger, golf pro at the Brainerd Country Club, says he shot a 75 to qualify for a spot in the $50,000 Bing Crosby Open at Pebble Beach. The tourney starts tomorrow with 300 pros in the field. Krueger barely missed qualifying for two earlier tournaments near Los Angeles.

80 years ago (1940)

Blowing a comfortable halftime lead of 19-9, the Warrior basketball team buried itself deeper in the lower division of the conference by losing to St. Cloud Tech 27-25. Brainerd was outscored 10-0 in the third quarter to produce a 19-19 tie. A questionable call by the officials gave Tech the lead and the win.

100 years ago (1920)

In the case charging arson, in which three Crosby men were convicted in setting fire to a rooming house in Crosby, the testimony of deputy state fire marshals was important. They said the fire started in six different bedrooms at the same time, but they shut the doors and the fires went out. A few days later they started fires again.
