20 years ago (2000)

After months of speculation on which city – Brainerd or Baxter – will annex the site of the new Menard's store on Hwy 371 North, it appears the landowners have sided with Baxter. The Baxter city council has accepted the petition for annexation signed by the seven landowners involved.

30 years ago (1990)

The Sierra Club and two other organizations who have tied up the proposed MacMillan Boedel wood products plant in lawsuits, were blasted today by Minn. Forest Industries, Inc. The group accuses the environmentalists of trying to circumvent the Legislature in stopping the plant being built.

40 years ago (1980)

A District Court judge has ruled that a member of the striking Larco union was guilty of “intimidation and verbal assault” against Larco employees. He was found in contempt of court for violating a restraining order. The strike has created charges and counter-charges of violence.

60 years ago (1960)

80 years ago (1940)

Melvin Schmidt, who stole cash from purses in St. Francis Catholic Church, got a six-month term in jail. He waited until women were in the confessional booth before acting. The complaints were filed by the wife of Patrolman Louis Rofidal, who arrested Schmidt, and by the wife of Capt. Neil Gordon, head of the State Patrol here.

100 years ago (1920)

The early morning incident at the Dairy Lunch at 6th and Laurel Streets, where Officer Meade fired his revolver, brought disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct charges against two men. They were found not guilty as the proprietor, waiter and other patrons said the men weren't bothering anybody.
