20 years ago (2000)

Adam Carner, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, is the last pioneer of the Warrior adapted floor hockey team. Carner was an 8th-grader when the team was sanctioned as a varsity sport. Since then his teams have finished third twice, second once and won two state titles, including this year.

30 years ago (1990)

(Edit.) As we said earlier, it would be a good idea to build a bigger, better Brainerd Tech College on grounds near Brainerd Community College. Then promote interaction between the two and call it the Brainerd College Center. The current Brainerd Tech building, next to the high school, wouldn't stay idle for long.

40 years ago (1980)

Striking employees at Brainerd Recreational Supply are back on the job, ending a month-long strike. The company wanted an open shop and the Teamsters wanted a closed shop, but they compromised on an agency shop where new employees must join the union, while current workers can join or not.

60 years ago (1960)

John H. Krekelberg, 75, of 403 Bluff Avenue, has died. He was born in Perham in 1884 and moved to Brainerd in 1908 where he entered the real estate business. He was Brainerd's longest serving Realtor, having been in real estate and insurance for 50 years.

80 years ago (1940)

Members of the county fair made plans for a final drive to raise $3,000 to complete three buildings at the fairgrounds. About $1,700 has been raised thus far. This is the first time the fair has solicited funds, and officials say it will be the last, with the fair able to sustain itself in the future.

100 years ago (1920)

The Rosko Brothers auto dealership has received two carloads of Studebaker cars. Ole Benson has bought two of them, adding them to his fleet of Studebakers used in his auto livery service.
