20 years ago (2000)

Supposed you bowled in a league and rolled only strikes for an entire season. Sounds impossible. But Steve Lemke, of the Brainerd Archery League, shot 60 straight bullseyes last week to cap a 14-week season in which he never missed. That's a total of 840 straight bulleseyes, folks!

30 years ago (1990)

Turena Johnson paced the 1600-meter run at the Central Lakes Conference track meet at St. Cloud in a time of 5:37.18. On the boys side, the Warrior 4x100 relay triumphed in 46.21. Relay members were Joe Diemer, Jesse Ramsdell, Eric Magnan and Jason Pohl.

40 years ago (1980)

Two men held up the Thrifty Scot Motel in Baxter at 2:45 this morning, showing no guns but keeping a hand inside their shirts. The night clerk said they got about $150. Police investigators say it could be the same men that hit nearby 371 Liquor, taking beer and liquor.

60 years ago (1960)

Three types of racing will be held at the about to be completed Paul Bunyan Speedway this summer, according to the new owners. Strictly Stock, Modified (with no limit on engine size) and go-cart racing on the infield. Season tickets for 12 races are $10, and husband-wife tickets are $10.

80 years ago (1940)

Glowing tributes were paid to the memory of Asa David Polk on his 40 years as an attorney today by his fellow members of the county bar association. The memorials preceded the opening of the spring term of court. Citizenship papers were given to 28 county residents by Judge Thwing.

100 years ago (1920)
