Northwest Airlines, by way of its Mesaba Airlink carrier, is expanding summer and fall air service to the Brainerd lakes area. It plans to expand its direct service to Minneapolis to seven flights per day and will continue that through October. This represents a 36 percent increase in passenger seats over 1999.

30 years ago (1990)

Paul Thiede, former state legislator from District 13A, announced he intends to run for the District 2 commissioner's seat on the county board. The position is currently held by commissioner Howard Peterson. Thiede served four terms in the Legislature until being defeated in 1988.

40 years ago (1980)

The Ten Commandments plaque being presented to Crow Wing County by the county ministerial association, has arrived and will be mounted near the court house entrance tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Edgar Valiant said the installation ceremony is open to all citizens.

100 years ago (1920)

A meeting of the county Game, Bird and Fish Protective League, 600 members strong, will be held tonight at 8:30. The first shipment of live pheasants will arrive tomorrow noon from the state game reserve at Lake Minnetonka. Some 240 pheasant eggs were received earlier, and so far two-thirds have been hatched.
