Brainerd High School students may have to start paying for parking at the school. The school board will vote next week whether to take a committee's recommendation to charge students $10 per semester to park in the lower high school parking lot. The money would go toward hiring a full-time parking security person.

30 years ago (1990)

Thanks to the Minn. Court of Appeals, persons convicted of writing bad checks to buy pulltabs can clear their records. County attorney Steve Rathke said the ruling allows persons convicted of writing bad checks to have their verdict set aside. The court said that a check written for gambling debts is invalid.

Jamie Templeton's extra-point accuracy proved the difference for coach Ron Stolski's Warriors in their televised, 14-13 CLC win at Alexandria. His first conversion made the score 7-6. Then, after catching a TD pass from QB Mark Muesing, he kicked his second extra point for the final margin.

80 years ago (1940)

Extension of the deer hunting territory down into the northern reaches of Crow Wing County is being considered by the state game and fish department. An increase in deer there suggests that the 1938 line may be moved 20 miles to the south. Deer hunting in the county has been illegal for several years.

100 years ago (1920)

A fire of unknown origin starting at 10:10 last night destroyed the old car shop brick building, measuring 200x300 feet in size. Loss was estimated at $20,000 for the building and $15,000 for equipment and materials. The Brainerd and railway fire departments managed to save the nearby planing mill and power plant.
