For almost two periods the Warrior girls' hockey team held a 2-0 edge over St. Cloud. But the youthful Tigers, with only one senior, were just getting organized. They scored two goals to tie it and then the winner with just 45 seconds remaining in OT for the win. Erin Holznagel and Natalie Dunphy scored for Brainerd.

30 years ago (1990)

In his first action since winning the recent election, county attorney-elect Jack Graham has proposed keeping the assistant attorneys now on board and sent a letter to the county board proposing Bruce Alderman as his deputy attorney. He also proposed cutting his salary to $54,000 from the $70,000 proposed by Steve Rathke.

40 years ago (1980)

Mankato Bethany defended its Turkey Tournament title, beating host Brainerd Community College 88-73. The Vikings got 29 points from Anthony Bias and 21 from David Krantz. BCC coach Mike Nelson said the Raiders might have overcome that edge, but they committed 24 turnovers.

60 years ago (1960)

A pair of glasses left in a wrecked car led to the arrest of two Crosby-area juveniles who stole a car in Ironton and crashed it into a tree near Bay Lake after a short joy ride. The boys noticed the driver had parked the car and left his keys in the ignition. The boy who lost his glasses implicated his friend.

80 years ago (1940)

A thousand Washington High School students witnessed the presentation of 105 Bibles to Brainerd schools by the Gideons. Hymns were sung and the significance of the Bible was explained. A copy was then placed on the desk of each teacher in Brainerd. Minnesota law permits reading from the Bible daily, without comment.
