Central Lake College is planning to close two more programs – Graphic Arts / Electronic Publishing, and Auto Body / Mechanics – as part of more than $1.3 million in cuts at the college. CLC vice president Doug Keran said the Legislature could come up with more money to save them, but CLC wasn't counting on it.

Three teenage boys narrowly missed drowning on Gull Lake when their light pickup truck broke through at an ice heave and sank in 65 feet of water. The boys all got wet in escaping, but ran to a fish house where the parents of one boy were fishing. The DNR says the dangerous ice heave runs from Love Lake toward Rocky Point.
80 years ago (1941)
It doesn't happen once in a lifetime, but IT happened here. Charles Extrand, 10, was playing whist with his grandparents and sister when IT happened. As his grandfather dealt, Charles picked up the first four cards – all diamonds, then the first ten cards were all diamonds. Then the whole hand, 13 diamonds. The hand was never played – too much excitement.
100 years ago (1921)
Joe Fleischhacker was charged by Officer Erick Graff with making threats to “get him.” Joe was up before city attorney D.H. Fullerton where he was read a lecture, but no charges were placed against him.
