It took a while, but when the Warrior adapted floor hockey team got its state-champion muscles flexed, they went on to blank White Bear Lake 6-0. David Peterson got Brainerd on the board with a goal in the first period, then Chris Nelson notched two in the second. Nelson finished with four goals and one assist.
30 years ago (1991)
Brainerd Community College announced that Warren Mertens has been hired on a one-year contract as baseball coach for the coming season. Mertens, a teacher at Staples and Motley, pitched in the Twins' minor league system, spending two years in the Class AA Southern League.

Supt. Elliot Whoolery submitted his resignation to the school board last night, ending 17 years at the helm of District 181. While saying his decision to retire is “final,” Whoolery offered the district his services as a “non-salaried volunteer administrative assistant” for the next school year.
60 years ago (1961)
A robin appeared at a bird feeder near Pequot Lakes to confuse the weather situation. Observers say that the bird either didn't know winter was here, or perhaps thought it was nearly over. Clarence Youngberg of Sibley Lake saw the robin on his feeder this morning. The temperature was six below zero.
80 years ago (1941)
Formal dedication of the recently built two-run toboggan slide at the south end of Fourth Street near Boom Lake will take place tomorrow. Lights will be installed next week. A hockey game between the Brainerd Red Devils and the Montgomery Ward team of St. Paul will take place tomorrow at the rink on Roosevelt Field.
100 years ago (1921)
William T. Harris, St. Paul, the architect of the new court house building, gave the Dispatch reporter a guided tour of the nearly completed building and we were impressed. Harris has extended an invitation to take members of the public on a tour and wishes more would take him up on the offer.
