The Brainerd boys' team was second and the girls finished third at the Duluth East Invitational alpine ski event at Spirit Mountain. Katie Majka led the Warrior girls with a second place time of 76.85 seconds and Morgan Klang was 10th. Kyle Goochey led the boys with a fifth place finish in 71.91.

30 years ago (1991)

The final figures are in. The 1990 census shows Brainerd with a population of 12,353, a 7.5 percent gain from the 11,489 in 1980. Baxter's population is booming, with 3,695 people, up 40.8 percent over 2,625 in 1980. Crow Wing county increased 6.1 percent, from 41,722 to 44,249.

40 years ago (1981)

After several months of silence, the “Pyramid Game” controversy returned today as the losers in the scheme prepared to file a $50,000 class action suit against the game winners. Attorney Mark Johnson says he represents between 20 and 30 people who lost $53,500 in the game and are ready to fight to get it back.

60 years ago (1961)

The city council and water and light board met with the Electrical Workers Union and rejected their bid for a pay raise. The city's offer is for a two percent increase, the same as all other city employees. The union is asking for either a four percent increase or health benefits, each of which would cost the city about the same.

80 years ago (1941)

Brainerd's fifth straight win and its eighth in nine games was rung up by the Warriors over St. Cloud Tech. While they won their previous three games by a total four points, this was easier, the margin being 37-29. Gene Brandt was again the scoring leader with 16 points, but Irv Ritari came through with 10.

100 years ago (1921)
