Three Brainerd and three Little Falls nordic skiers earned all-conference honors at the CLC meet at Alexandria. The fourth place Warrior boys had Nick Phelps finish fourth in classic and Chris Endreson placed fifth. The Brainerd girls were also fourth, with Christina Roberts taking third in classic.

30 years ago (1991)

No one was more surprised than Duane Blanck when the name of the Minn. County Highway Engineer of the year was announced. As chair of the association's annual meeting at Cragun's, he was reviewing notes when he noticed the speaker was talking about him. Blanck has been county engineer here since 1975.

A “mostest / bestest” poll conducted by the Pow-Wow, the high school newspaper, showed Bill Backen as Best Scholar, Most Respected and Most Likely to Succeed. Among the girls, Linnea Jensen was chosen Most Friendly, Best All-Around and Most Respected.

80 years ago (1941)

Immediate and effective work by the fire department prevented what could have been a disastrous fire at the First National Bank, 6th and Front Streets. The blaze, possibly from a discarded cigarette, started in the janitor's closet on the second floor. Heavy smoke closed the bank and a dozen other businesses.

100 years ago (1921)

Adolph Anderson and Louis Reshbesher of Minneapolis attended the Knights of Pythias roundup last Saturday. They were here as representatives of the Dramatic Order of the Knights of Khorassan, and spoke on behalf of their fraternal society at the meeting here.
