Twenty-one more wild turkeys are at home in Crow Wing County. The DNR transported 15 hens and six immature males (jakes) from southeastern Minnesota and released them near Ft. Ripley. Two adult toms later joined them. Gary Drotts, DNR wildlife supervisor says the 22 birds released in 1998 are doing well.

County attorney Jack Graham faces charges of unethical behavior for allegedly rummaging through Judge Clint Wyant's desk without permission. Wyant informed Graham by letter that his office is private and that Graham is banned unless invited. A complaint has been filed with the state lawyers board.

Flanked by four armed guards, with his hands and feet manacled, convicted fire-bomber John Rieck returned to a Brainerd courtroom to claim his prison sentence was too long. Rieck was sentenced to a 15-30 year term at Stillwater in 1977, and county attorney Steve Rathke said it could have been longer.

Warrior coach Fred Kellett captured his 9th conference title in 13 seasons here as Brainerd swamped Aitkin 67-36 last night to win its 12th straight game. Brainerd actually trailed 21-17 in the second quarter before catching fire. Bob Sheflo returned to action for 14 points and some thrilling assists.

A modern residential district on which 25 homes will be built was authorized with proper zoning by the city council. The area runs from 150 east of 7th Street to 150 feet west of 5th Street, and from Little Buffalo Creek south to the city limits. Ray Madison has options on the eight acres now owned by Joe Cibuzar.

Five hogs are parading through the streets of the city every day this week. They are innocent wanderers amid the dangers of modern life and more than once a passing auto has carried the threat of turning the pigs into pork.
