Katie Majka and Kyle Goochey are Warrior alpine ski team captains for good reasons – they are good leaders and fast skiers. At the Section 7 meet at Giants Ridge, Majka finished fourth – the highest finish ever by a Warrior to earn a trip to state. Goochey was 13th after the first run, but poured it on to finish ninth and a trip to state.
30 years ago (1991)
Margit Rinke scored a career-high 30 points as the Warrior girls' basketball team traveled to Cretin Derham-Hall and stunned the eighth-ranked Raiders, 70-64. Rinke also grabbed a team leading 12 rebounds. She was ably supported by Heather Anderson's career-high 23 points, and Sarah Northway added 13.
40 years ago (1981)
A nearby stairway may have saved the life of a Brainerd couple in a hotel fire at the Las Vegas Hilton. Mike and Kathy (Schaefer) Murphy were staying on the 14th floor when they heard sirens and saw fire engines pull up. The hallway was filled with smoke but they found the stairway and raced down 14 flights to safety.

Featured concert tomorrow in the Lakes Area Music Assn. concert series will be the Shiek's Sextette, 2:30 p.m. at Tornstrom Auditorium. The three men and three women will sing songs from “My Fair Lady” followed by songs and dances from the Victorian period.

Ski jumping before a crowd of over 1,000, Maurice Cain of the Washington High School team set a new hill record of 76 feet while winning the third annual ski tournament at the Boom Lake slide yesterday. Ken Nelson of the Whittier Elementary team set a hill record of 29 feet on the small jump.
