Shaun Kennedy once again dove into the record books at the CLC conference swimming and diving meet. The Warrior sophomore placed first in the one-meter 11 dive competition with 492.10 points. The score broke the Alexandria pool record and Dan Whirley's Brainerd school record.
30 years ago (1991)
Burt Knandel, who for 24 years has taught the business end of flower power at Brainerd Technical College, heads a list of school district retirements and resignations. The retirement of the retail floral instructor surprised many, but Knandel remarked before the school board meeting that “good teachers don't retire early enough.”
40 years ago (1981)

Brainerd's surging basketball team, just three wins away from an unbeaten season, had four of its five starters in double figures as they handily beat Staples, 71-44. The Warriors started slowly yet again, leading only 14-12 at the first quarter. Bob Sheflo again displayed some spectacular passing.
80 years ago (1941)
Of the four members of the Brainerd Golden Gloves boxing team that qualified for the Minneapolis Northwest tournament, only Russ Fitzsimmons remains. The popular heavyweight scored a knockout in the second round of his first bout, then in his second match, he knocked out his opponent in the first round.
100 years ago (1921)
The basketball game between Brainerd and Little Falls before 800 fans was judged the best played here this season. Little Falls brought 180 rooters and their school band. Little Falls led 14 to 5 at the half, but Brainerd roared back to lead 19-18 with seconds to play. A last second shot gave Little Falls a 20-19 win.
