Before this winter, freshman Christina Roberts had never attempted nordic ski racing; she'd been a swimmer. But her mother, Debby Roberts, was the Warriors' first ski coach in 1979-80, so the move was natural. In her first year, Christina skied to a 6th place in classic at the Section 8 meet and goes to state.
30 years ago (1991)
Warrior senior Heather MacIver skied to a third place individual finish in a time of 16:15.7 at the state cross country ski meet, as the Brainerd girls team also finished third. MacIver was fourth last year. Andi Mathieu was 26th, Jocelyn Manion 32nd and Jenna Hanson 36th.

(Photo) Harvey Shew, principal at Franklin Junior High, looks over damage done yesterday as vandals tipped over library bookshelves, smashed furniture and 89 windows, and threw paint and food over school floors. The vandalism spree, which Shew calls “the worst I've ever seen,” is estimated at $20,000.

The Brainerd Jaycees say that Kaye Hill, Miss Brainerd of 1960, will once again represent the city in the Miss Minnesota semi-finals at Moorhead on March 25. The local pageant to select a new queen isn't scheduled until July 2. Hill, attending Brainerd Junior College, placed fourth in last year's Miss Minnesota contest.

Parents of children in the 2nd Ward (north Brainerd) were warned by Police Chief Tom Templeton that vandalism must stop or action will be taken. All street lights in Gregory Park were out last night as all were broken. Outer shells have not been replaced as the inner bulbs are broken out every week. Parents must act.
100 years ago (1921)
Lester Davis appeared before Municipal Judge Wieland charged with speeding on Kindred Street. Davis drives the Barrows bus. The defendant said that the bus is powered by a Ford engine and geared like a truck, so it can only make 18 mph. The engine runs fast and makes a terrible noise, but he was only doing 8 mph. Case dismissed.
