With all the excitement revolving around other Brainerd sports, the adapted floor hockey team has quietly continued its dominance in Minnesota. The Warriors impressed their fans with a 7-0 thrashing of Maple Grove as they work toward their third state title in four years. Chris Nelson led Brainerd with six goals.
30 years ago (1991)
Four of Brainerd's five gymnasts fell on their opening beam routine, but the Warriors came roaring back to win their 10th consecutive Region 8AA gymnastics team title and move to state. In the individual competition, Julie Beasley moves to state on vault, bars and floor exercise, and Missy McCollough qualified on vault.
40 years ago (1981)
A request to connect the Brainerd and Baxter water systems at certain points was rejected by the Brainerd Water and Light board. Len Peterson and Warren Welton voted to turn down the proposal, saying that Brainerd's system was so large Baxter couldn't take care of it in an emergency. Brainerd has a good backup system now.
60 years ago (1961)
Residents of the Krech school district last night voted 53-21 to accept their share of the Brainerd school district indebtedness when the two districts are combined this summer. This is the final action needed to dissolve Krech and combine it with Brainerd on July 1.
80 years ago (1941)
Maurice Cain, holder of the Brainerd ski jumping hill record, scored 134.7 points on jumps of 96 and 91 feet to finish fourth in the junior division of the Tribune Ski Meet in Minneapolis. Darrel Johnson finished 15th in the intermediate division with two jumps of 94 feet. Over 25,000 fans attended the meet.
