Joni Meyer, a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Assn. teaching and club professional division, has returned from LPGA training courses at Daytona Beach, FL, and Phoenix, AZ. Meyer works out of Breezy Point Resort's Whitebirch Golf Club.

In a year of unprecedented Warrior athletic achievement, theirs stood out. Keith Bartholomaus and Julie Beasley were honored as Athletes of the Year at the All-Sports Banquet. Beasley scored a state-record 9.9 vault in winning a state gymnastics title. “Bart” was an All-State, All-Star selection in both football and hockey.
40 years ago (1981)
Seven of the beautiful Norway pine trees on 7th and Laurel Streets in downtown Brainerd were broken off by vandals last night. The trees were part of of the beautification program in 1976 and were now well established. Mayor C. Elmer Anderson, who had just declared tomorrow as Arbor Day here, was particularly disgusted.
60 years ago (1961)
(Photo) The trout fishing opener saw fewer fish caught, but were bigger than usual. A group of teachers hit Pleasant Lake near Crosslake, fishing from shore. Jack Fish caught this 6-8 rainbow after a tough fight. Band director Dan Campbell had one on that was estimated at seven pounds, but forgot his net, the hook broke and he lost it.

J.A. Joncas, whose sawmill in Northeast Brainerd burned down last year, will have his new sawmill in working order next week. He plans to saw 25,000 board feet per day and employ 60 men. The mill will use three steamboats to fish up deadheads from the Mississippi to be sawn into lumber.
