(Photo) The friendly battle has been raging since 1954, first as employees for competing dairy companies, then on the bowling alleys. Curly Olson and Lloyd Johnson are the first two inductees into the Brainerd/Baxter Bowling Hall of Fame. Olson, for superior performance, including a 300 game and 800 series, Johnson for meritorious service.

30 years ago (1991)

Kyle Smith did one expected and one unexpected thing in helping the Warrior baseball team to a 5-4 win over Monticello. He was expected to protect a one-run lead when he relieved in the 7th with two outs and one on. He struck out the batter to end the game. He wasn't expected to hit, but nailed a double in the 3rd and a two-run double in the 4th.

40 years ago (1981)

Losers in last summer's “Pyramid Money Game” may be able to seek compensation if a lawsuit filed in court yesterday is successful. The suit seeks $100,000 from one couple, and a total of $50,000 from 17 other defendants. The judge will decide in about a month whether the case can proceed as a class action suit.

60 years ago (1961)

By tomorrow morning about 60 light planes will have converged on the Brainerd airport, all part of a test of the Civil Defense network. When sirens sounded at 3 p.m. today, ham radio operators, and city and state radio nets linked up. Radio stations broadcast messages from the president and governor on 640 AM and 1240 AM.

80 years ago (1941)

100 years ago (1921)
