“Cheating is easier now we have computers than it ever was before,” said Brainerd High School principal Steve Razidlo. His comments came after 30 sophomores of the 430 taking a required American history class turned in identical papers. A suspicious teacher checked with others and discovered the problem.

30 years ago (1991)

Police Capt. Lyman Dahl's attorney, Patrick Krueger, alleged in a court document that county attorney Jack Graham allowed inadmissible evidence, including rumor and innuendo, in grand jury proceedings that led to indicting his client. He also alleged that two Brainerd attorneys were present and should not have been.

40 years ago (1981)

Except for a few remedial classes there will be no summer school in Brainerd this year. The school board, faced with levying a $124,000 local tax or canceling summer school, chose the latter. The decision will affect nearly 4,000 students who had signed up for classes.

60 years ago (1961)

A pitching battle between Verndale and Brainerd saw the Warriors squeak through with a 5-4 opening win in the District 24 tournament. Dale Brown allowed one-hit and struck out 16 for Brainerd, but errors and walks allowed four unearned Verndale runs. The Verndale pitcher gave up eight hits but struck out 13 Warriors.

80 years ago (1941)

Registration of men who have become 21 since October 16 last year will add approximately 250 county young men to the list of those eligible for compulsory military service. There are currently 3,555 county men who have registered for the draft, with 78 of them already in army camps.

100 years ago (1921)
