The last two active members of the Warrior boys' tennis team are rolling toward what they hope will be a trip to state. The doubles team of sophomore Paul Tuchscherer and senior Erik Bohn took their quarterfinal match 6-2, 6-2. Both had been primarily singles players during the season, with Tuchscherer going undefeated.

30 years ago (1991)

The month of May hasn't been kind to Jeff Imsande. During the fishing opener he jumped onto a dock, cut his leg and sprained his ankle. But even when in pain he managed to drive in the winning run in Brainerd's 3-2 extra inning win over St. Cloud Apollo in the Region 8AA tournament. Plus, he pitched four innings of scoreless relief.

40 years ago (1981)

Outfielder Kevin Kristenson and pitcher Dick Henkemeyer of Brainerd Community College were named to the All-State baseball team. Kristenson hit .481 with 26 RBI. Henkemeyer was 7-1 with 82 strikeouts in 59.5 innings and an ERA of 2.36.

60 years ago (1961)

Sheriff's officers were investigating a break-in and theft of an undetermined number of chickens last night at Brainerd Broilers, Inc. north of Merrifield. Three chicken houses are on the property, each housing about 25,000 chickens.

80 years ago (1941)

Four horses were knocked down, one was injured, windows were blown out and fire raged through the barn roof at Fred Thiesse's dairy farm yesterday afternoon as lightning struck in a ball of flame. Herb Thiesse had just unharnessed the horses when the bolt knocked the harness from his hands. He and brothers Wayne and Howard are all safe.

100 years ago (1921)

Racing their cars on the Gull Lake Road on Saturday night, one car, a Willys-Knight, came to grief as its driver tried to pass a Buick. The Willys-Knight careened in the sand, smashing fenders and windshield, and bending both axles. It was towed next day to the Stadlbauer Garage.
