20 years ago (2001)

The defending national champ CLC Raider volleyball team entered pool play seeded fourth and with something to prove. Then they won all three matches, including over the nation's top-ranked team, as they head into the National JC Div. III semis. “We played good volleyball and had good teamwork,” said coach Jane Peterson.

30 years ago (1991)

Since winning its only conference title in 1981, the Warrior volleyball team had a lean decade. They started to rebound under coach Carl Schirmer in 1986, and yesterday they beat Sauk Rapids for the subsection title, 15-13, 15-9, 15-8. Brainerd now stands at 20-4 for the season and heads to the Section 8AA title game.

40 years ago (1981)

At noon tomorrow, after 10 years of silence, Brainerd's carillon bells will ring out in concert once more. The bells, installed atop the courthouse as a memorial to Brainerd servicemen killed in WWII, were last played by the Rev. Canon E. G. Barrow when he retired in 1971. In a fitting tribute to their repair, Barrow will play a concert on the bells on Veteran's Day.

60 years ago (1961)

In a special warning to area deer hunters today, Sheriff Al Krueger asked sportsmen to lock their cars when stepping out for any reason, often at restaurants and businesses in small towns. Each year, a number of rifles, cameras and other valuables are stolen. Krueger says such thefts are increasing and items are difficult to trace.

80 years ago (1941)

100 years ago (1921)

The fund to build and maintain the municipal skating rink this winter got a big boost yesterday when members of the Brainerd Athletic Club brought in donations they had collected. The club's membership is largely south side boys. The fund total now stands at $53.51.
