In the middle of the Dark Ages, a 17-year-old boy became the first Mongol leader to unite six warring Mongolian tribes. He assembled a 200,000-person army and became master of much of the known world. The Mongolian Horde conquered China, Persia, India and much of Russia between 1240-1500.
Wefald, who has a doctorate in history, has retired from a career in the leadership of major universities. He was chancellor for the University of Minnesota State and former president of Kansas State University. He was also president of Southwest State University, Minnesota.
